The only reason Willy Paul signed me was… Miss P discusses her record deal
Miss P has opened up about how she landed a deal under Saldido International, the record label owned by Willy Paul, insisting that her talent — not her appearance — earned her the opportunity.
Speaking during an interview on the Over1M podcast with host Mwirigi, Miss P reflected on the circumstances that led to her signing and addressed questions surrounding whether her beauty may have influenced the decision.
“My talent convinced them”
According to the singer, the label became interested in her after she submitted a video of herself singing, long before meeting Willy Paul in person.
Miss P explained that the performance alone was enough to capture the attention of the team behind the label.
“My talent… because even before Willy Paul saw me, he had already made the decision. So what happened is I sent a video of me singing. That video was enough to convince them,” she said.
She maintained that the decision to sign her had already been shaped by what they heard in the recording rather than how she looked.
Debate over beauty and talent
During the discussion, Mwirigi pointed out that it could be difficult to completely separate appearance from talent, especially in a visual performance video.
“But there is beauty in the video of you singing,” the host noted.
The exchange sparked a broader conversation around how female artistes are often viewed in the entertainment industry, particularly regarding the balance between talent, image, and public perception.
Miss P, who rose to prominence through gospel and Afro-pop music, remains one of the notable former artistes associated with Saldido International.
