Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu has launched a scathing attack on the country’s law enforcement agencies, accusing them of a catastrophic failure to protect Kenyan children amid an alarming spike in disappearances.

In an emotional address, the legislator criticized security organs for their lethargic response to what she termed a full-blown national crisis, demanding immediate accountability and aggressive investigations from the Inspector General of Police.

“Our Security Agencies Have Failed Us”

Expressing deep frustration over the lack of public updates and intelligence briefings from investigators, Senator Nyamu questioned how hundreds of minors could vanish without a trace under the watch of state security agencies.

Citing heavily troubling statistics, the lawmaker noted that current data indicating that between 18 and 24 children are disappearing daily across the country is completely unacceptable and requires an emergency state response.

“Watoto wetu wadogo wanapotea kwa kiwango ingine ya kutisha na hatuelewi hawa watoto wanauliwa na nani ama wanaenda wapi (Our young children are disappearing at an alarming rate, and we do not understand who is killing them or where they are going),” Nyamu lamented.

“Our security agencies have failed us. You have failed the children of this country,” she added bluntly.

A Grim Fate for Missing Minors

The Senator raised the alarm over the horrific state in which some of the missing children are found, noting that many cases end in tragedy, severe physical trauma, or unresolved fatalities that rarely see justice in court.

“Wengine wanapatikana kama wamekua abused, wengine wanapatikana kama wameuawa na bado hatuna report, hatuna investigation ya kusema hawa watoto wanaenda wapi (Some are found abused, others are found murdered, and yet we still have no report or investigation explaining where these children are going),” Nyamu stated.

Growing Public Outcry over Child Safety

The lawmaker’s fiery remarks mirror a wave of anxiety gripping families across Kenya, fueled by a relentless stream of missing child alerts flooding social media platforms over recent months.

Nyamu’s political intervention injects fresh momentum into long-standing campaigns by child rights organizations. For years, human rights groups and child protection agencies have aggressively lobbied the government to establish centralized, rapid-response tracking systems and dedicated police desks to handle child abductions swiftly before they turn fatal.
