Be self-reliant and emotionally resilient: Akothee gives women dating and life advice

Kenyan musician and entrepreneur Akothee has shared a reflective message on self-reliance, emotional resilience and personal growth, encouraging women to prioritise building themselves even while navigating love and relationships.

In a post shared on her Instagram page, Akothee addressed women experiencing heartbreak or struggling to let go of relationships that continue to hurt them. She urged them to redirect their energy towards personal development and creating a stable future for themselves.

Her message centred on the importance of not relying entirely on romantic relationships for happiness, security or identity.

“To the woman who woke up heartbroken and still chasing someone who keeps running…” Akothee wrote.

Lessons from pain and life experiences

Akothee reflected on some of the challenges women face when relationships become unhealthy, including broken marriages, abandonment and financial struggles.

“Have you not seen broken marriages, abandoned children, widows left homeless, women burdened with debts they took on for love, and families destroyed by betrayal?” she asked.

According to the singer, difficult experiences can become powerful lessons that shape a person’s understanding of life.

“Pain is a hard teacher, but it leaves behind wisdom,” she added.

The importance of independence

A major focus of Akothee’s message was the need for women to develop themselves financially and emotionally.

She encouraged women not to place their entire future in the hands of a partner, but instead to build their own skills, dreams and sources of stability.

“The greatest lesson life has taught many women is this: BUILD YOURSELF FIRST,” she stated.

Akothee clarified that independence does not mean rejecting love, but rather ensuring that a person remains secure and confident regardless of what happens in a relationship.

“Not because love is unimportant, but because financial independence gives you choices, dignity, and peace of mind,” she said.

Love without losing yourself

The musician further advised women to embrace love while still protecting their individual goals and purpose.

“Love with your heart, but never abandon your purpose, your dreams, or your ability to stand on your own,” she wrote.

Akothee concluded her message by encouraging women to keep moving forward after disappointment, suggesting that new opportunities often come when people continue working towards their own growth.

“If a driver abandons you, a pilot might pick you. But only if you start doing flights,” she concluded.
