Gachagua Accuses CS Murkomen Of Financing “State Goons” Ahead Of Protests
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has launched a scathing attack on Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, accusing him of orchestrating and funding the very criminal elements he publicly warned Kenyans about.
The outburst follows a Wednesday evening press briefing where CS Murkomen disclosed that the government possessed intelligence reports indicating goons were being mobilized to commit crimes during upcoming demonstrations. Gachagua claimed these remarks only deepened public suspicion regarding state-sponsored violence.
“I am vindicated. Kenyans are more convinced than ever before that my position has all along been true and factual; we have the most clueless Minister in charge of security since independence.” — Rigathi Gachagua
Allegations of a “Scripted” Security Strategy
The former Deputy President challenged Murkomen to explain why the Ministry of Interior had failed to pre-emptively stop these criminal elements despite having prior intelligence.
Gachagua alleged that the impending security disruptions are part of a scripted state strategy designed to frame political dissidents:
-
Controlled Destruction: He claimed that police have clear instructions to stand aside and allow state-linked goons to wreck havoc on property before intervening.
-
Targeted Arrests: Following the destruction, the state allegedly plans to arrest opposition figures on fabricated charges of inciting violence.
-
Stage-Managed Attacks: Gachagua warned of upcoming “staged” attacks on government-aligned leaders meant to generate public sympathy and deflect blame onto the opposition.
Breach of Police Independence
Beyond the immediate security threats, Gachagua expressed deep concern over the breakdown of the National Police Service’s constitutional independence. He accused CS Murkomen of illegally encroaching on operational matters that strictly fall under the mandate of the Inspector General (IG).
“The National Police Service is supposed to be independent. The Minister should comment on policy. The IG is in charge of operations. Why is Mr. Murkomen discussing police operations?” Gachagua questioned.
He concluded by accusing the Interior Ministry of creating a parallel command structure that forces police commanders to work alongside criminal elements, issuing a pointed final warning invoking the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court (ICC).
