Babu Owino Alleges Life-Threatening Assault By Robert Alai At Kilimani Restaurant

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has detailed a harrowing physical confrontation with Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai, claiming the encounter was a direct attempt on his life. The incident reportedly took place on Saturday afternoon, January 3, 2026, at a popular establishment along Lenana Road in Kilimani, Nairobi.

In a public statement issued on Sunday, Babu revealed that he was attending a private meeting with a senior clergyman at the time. The lawmaker noted that he was without his usual security detail, having released them for the Christmas holidays.

Escalation Over Social Media Claims

According to the MP, the tension began when he noticed a group nearby that included Robert Alai. Babu alleges that Alai approached him and accused him of orchestrating social media attacks against Alai’s wife—an accusation the MP firmly denied.

“I calmly explained that I do not know his wife, that she has never wronged me in any way, and that I have no reason whatsoever to involve innocent family members in politics. It is not my style to advance my politics by attacking women,” Babu stated.

Allegations of Armed Assault

Babu claims the situation turned violent despite his attempts to de-escalate. He alleges that the Kileleshwa MCA became aggressive, pushed him, and drew a pistol, using it to strike him on the chest and jaw in full view of other restaurant patrons.

The MP further stated that Alai poured a glass of water on his face before a crowd gathered to intervene. Seeking to avoid further violence, Babu left the scene and immediately filed an official report at the Kilimani Police Station.
