Betty Bayo’s Widower Tash Makes First Public Appearance, Addresses Online Scrutiny
Just over a week after the solemn burial of his wife, beloved gospel singer Betty Bayo, her widower Hiram Gitau, popularly known as Tash, made his first public appearance on Sunday, November 30, 2025.
Bayo had passed away on Monday, November 10, after a brave battle with acute myeloid leukaemia, leaving her husband and children, Sky Victor and Danivictor, in deep mourning. Tash was last seen publicly during the burial at Mugumo Estate, where he was visibly emotional.
His return to the public eye occurred at the official song release party for fellow gospel singer Ngaruiya Junior at the Mark Hotel along Thika Road.

Emotional Appearance and Public Thanks
Tash appeared dressed in all black, still reflecting a state of mourning, but managed to break into smiles occasionally as he addressed the guests. He used the platform to extend his gratitude to Ngaruiya Junior and other gospel artists for the overwhelming support they provided to his family during Betty’s illness, including efforts for blood transfusions, and throughout the subsequent burial arrangements.
He also recalled his close friendship with Ngaruiya, which blossomed during his relationship with the late singer.
Joking About Social Media Pressure
Tash also touched on the intense online attention he has received since Bayo’s death, which has been fueled by the ongoing public discussion regarding the custody of Betty’s children with her ex-husband, Prophet Victor Kanyari.
The widower employed a lighthearted approach to the heavy topic, joking about his unfamiliarity with the digital world.
“I am not a person who is usually online. Even the things I recently started seeing there made me feel like I am a form one student, but I am hanging in there. I think I will look for Karangu Muraya to give me some classes to know how people survive there,” he quipped, seeking to lighten the mood around the contentious family issues.
