Boondocks Gang’s Maddox Set For Rehab After Music Producer Steps In
Image: Edu MaddoxRenowned Gengetone artist Maddox, a member of the once-dominant Boondocks Gang trio, is finally set to enter a rehabilitation center to battle severe substance and alcohol addiction following a direct intervention by singer and music producer King Pheezle.
King Pheezle shared the breakthrough moment on his Instagram account on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, posting a video of their raw, emotional encounter in the Kimbo area of Ruiru, Kiambu County. In the clip, the producer successfully convinced a receptive Maddox to commit to a structured six-month recovery program.
A Sincere Promise Beyond Public Relations
To ensure Maddox stays motivated during his recovery, King Pheezle pledged to set up a mobile recording infrastructure or facilitate studio sessions to jumpstart the artist’s stalled musical career during his six-month residency at the facility.
Addressing the skepticism that often surrounds celebrity interventions, King Pheezle explicitly assured Maddox that this was not a clout-chasing exercise, directly contrasting himself with previous well-wishers who promised aid only to vanish once the cameras stopped rolling.
“Mimi hiyo nakuahidi, unaskia bro, kama uko willing kwenda rehab bro, life yako itachange for the better, I swear bro sawa, na si za ki PR or something mimi nakuambia tu reality bro… (I promise you that, brother. If you are willing to go to rehab, your life will change for the better, I swear. And this isn’t for PR, I’m telling you the reality…),” King Pheezle was captured telling the artist.
To prove his commitment, the producer published corroborating screenshots of his early-morning communication with a rehabilitation administrator, finalizing the entry protocols for the Rieng hitmaker.
A Tragic Descent from Gengetone Stardom
Maddox’s battle with addiction has been a matter of intense public concern for years, marking a tragic fall from grace for one of the pioneering voices of the Gengetone movement.
The downward spiral began following the quiet disbandment of Boondocks Gang during the economic fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic. While his former groupmates, Odi Wa Muranga and Exray Taniua, successfully navigated the transition into lucrative solo careers, Maddox fell through the cracks.

September 2023: Maddox first sparked national alarm when viral videos surfaced showing him wandering in a visibly disheveled and disoriented state along Mirema Drive in Roysambu.

Early 2026: Public anxiety deepened significantly after recent, heartbreaking footage emerged on social media showing the former star asleep on a local dumpsite.
Prior to King Pheezle’s successful intervention, several industry players had tried to throw Maddox a lifeline. Media personality Oga Obinna had previously offered to sponsor his rehabilitation, but Maddox rejected the gesture at the time, insisting he was entirely sober and merely enduring a temporary financial rough patch. Secular-turned-gospel artist Bahati also briefly stepped in to offer material assistance.
With Maddox now officially consenting to professional medical care, fans and contemporary artists across the Kenyan entertainment ecosystem are rallying behind the star, hoping the six-month program will finally restore his health and resurrect his undeniable musical talent.
