Chiki Kuruka has called for compassion, protection, and fair treatment of a teenage girl linked to a child kidnapping case that has sparked concern across the country.

Speaking through her Instagram account on Monday, May 25, 2026, Kuruka urged the public to consider the deeper issues that may affect minors involved in serious crimes.

According to her, while the allegations surrounding the case are grave, children caught up in such situations may also be victims of hidden struggles including neglect, trauma, threats, or grooming.

“Any 15-year-old involved in a crime as serious as this one is also a victim of something. Negligence, trauma, threats, grooming,” Chiki Kuruka said.

She clarified that her remarks were not intended to excuse criminal behaviour, stressing that accountability remains important. However, she emphasised that the suspect is still a child and should be treated with that understanding in mind.

“That’s not to say her behaviour is acceptable. But she is a child,” she added.

Emotional Weight of the Case

Kuruka further reflected on the emotional impact such incidents can have on minors involved in investigations, noting that the experience can be frightening and overwhelming for a young person.

“Coming forward must be scary and overwhelming,” she said.

The media personality also expressed hope that the teenager would receive protection during the legal and investigative process. At the same time, she called for accountability against adults who may have failed both the suspect and the child involved in the alleged abduction.

“I PRAY she is protected, and I really hope the adults who have failed her and failed the kidnapped child are brought to justice,” Kuruka stated.

She further cautioned that conversations on social media can sometimes shift attention away from the root causes of serious issues.

“Social media has a crazy way of distracting consumers from the real issues. I hope this isn’t another instance of that,” she added.

Her comments come amid growing national concern over a rise in reported child abduction cases across different parts of the country.

The latest incident involved the rescue of a two-year-old child in Githurai, Nairobi, after CCTV footage allegedly captured a 15-year-old girl leading the child away.
