Dennis Ombachi Links Nairobi Insecurity To Political “Hired Goons”
Celebrity chef and digital creator Dennis Ombachi, also known as The Roaming Chef, has weighed in on the rising insecurity in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD). He argues that the increase in crime is not a coincidence but is directly linked to political dynamics.
In a statement on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, Ombachi suggested that the surge in muggings and violent robberies is due to a shift in activity from politically “hired goons.”
“If you dig deeper, the rise in insecurity in Nairobi’s CBD isn’t random. It ties back to the emboldened hired goons who, with no peaceful protestors left to harass, never left the streets. Now they’re just roaming for the next easy pay cheque they were weaned on,” he wrote.

Public Concerns and Viral Warnings
Ombachi’s remarks follow a wave of public concern over increasing theft in Nairobi. Residents and social media users have been sharing disturbing accounts of being mugged, drugged, and robbed in broad daylight. Viral videos and posts from victims have detailed incidents involving gangs who target valuables like phones and handbags, often using threats and intimidation.
“They are back. The thieves who smear human feaces onto people are back. They are operating all across Nairobi City, and they’re following you from around the Galitos restaurant,” one user warned in a viral clip.
The online conversation has turned into a collective warning, with users advising Kenyans to be more vigilant. “It’s not safe at all. Don’t display your phones. Additionally, consider walking with someone or taking an alternative route. Stay alert,” another user cautioned.
