Dorea Chege Opens Up About C-Section Delivery and Defends Having a Night Nurse
Actress and new mum Dorea Chege has opened up about her unexpected Caesarean section and the criticism she’s faced for hiring a night nurse to help care for her newborn daughter, Shiku.
In a candid video on her YouTube channel, Dorea revealed that she initially planned for a natural birth, but after 14 hours of labor and only 4 centimeters of dilation, doctors decided to proceed with a C-section.
“I had listened to so many people, and by the time I got to the hospital, I was scared,” she recalled. “I labored for 14 hours and only reached 4 cm. The nurse told me once I hit 6 cm, the pain would be even worse.”
Her fiancé, DJ Dibul, added that even after Dorea was induced, her labor didn’t progress. “We tried everything, but her cervix wasn’t opening,” he shared.
Since giving birth in early March, Dorea has also faced backlash online—mostly from older mothers—for choosing to hire a night nurse. Critics questioned how she bonds with her newborn if someone else handles nighttime care.
Responding to the criticism, Dorea defended her choice and emphasized that modern motherhood can include extra support without guilt.
“People were asking, ‘When do you bond with your baby if you have a night nurse?’ I bond with her all day,” she explained. “The nurse comes from 8 PM to 6 AM. She brings the baby to me when it’s time to breastfeed, then takes her back. I get to rest and be fully present the next day.”
She dismissed the pressure to “suffer in silence” for motherhood’s sake, saying, “There’s no medal for struggling. Normalize luxury. If I’ve done it, you can too.”
Dorea also clarified that she’s currently exclusively breastfeeding and not using expressed milk.
“For now, when the baby cries at night, she’s brought to me to breastfeed, then I go back to rest. That’s baby girl treatment,” she said with a smile.
In a heartfelt post announcing her daughter’s birth, Dorea reflected on her emotional journey to motherhood:
“I fought for you, I prayed for you, I yearned for you. And now, holding you in my arms, I realize every sacrifice was worth it. Welcome to the world, our precious princess.”
