Failed Polygamist Jimal Rohosafi Rates Netflix Drama The Polygamist 1/10 as Series Sparks Online Debate

South African drama series The Polygamist has become one of the most discussed shows online since its release, with viewers sharing strong opinions about its storyline and themes.

However, Kenyan businessman Jimal Rohosafi appears to have a different view of the trending Netflix production, dismissing the hype surrounding the series.

Jimal shared his thoughts through his Instagram Stories, giving the show a low rating despite its popularity among viewers.

“The Polygamist on Netflix is overhyped 1/10 🤨,” he wrote.

The blunt review came just hours after content creator Pritty Vishy also shared her thoughts on the series, although her reaction focused more on the emotional lessons drawn from the storyline.

A Controversial Relationship History

Jimal’s comments have attracted attention partly because of his own public history involving relationships and marriage.

The businessman became widely known following his highly publicised relationship with socialite Amber Ray, whom he was involved with while still married to his first wife, Amira.

The situation attracted intense public scrutiny in 2021, with the relationship drama playing out openly online.

Tensions reportedly escalated when the two women became involved in a public disagreement, leading to further conversations about marriage, co-wives, and relationships.

The relationship between Jimal and Amber Ray later ended, with Amber Ray publicly documenting the removal of a tattoo she had associated with him. Jimal’s first marriage to Amira also eventually came to an end.

He later introduced another partner, Wangari Thiong’o, further keeping his personal life in the public spotlight.

Because of these experiences, some online users have drawn comparisons between Jimal’s past and the themes explored in The Polygamist.

Pritty Vishy Shares a Different Take

Unlike Jimal’s focus on the show’s popularity, Pritty Vishy offered a more personal reaction.

She reflected on the behaviour of the main character, Jonasi Gomora, and the impact his actions had on the women around him.

Vishy warned women against remaining in relationships where they repeatedly experience betrayal.

“Ladies, in most cases a Jonas doesn’t die as Joyce does,” she said.

She encouraged women to value themselves and walk away from unhealthy relationship patterns.

Vishy also revealed that the series did not deeply shock her because she grew up around similar experiences.

Inside Netflix’s The Polygamist

The Polygamist is a 22-episode South African drama adapted from Sue Nyathi’s 2012 novel. The series marks Netflix’s first South African “supernovela” and blends dramatic storytelling with themes around marriage, trust, betrayal and family.

The story follows Jonasi Gomora, a wealthy CEO whose death exposes a hidden web of relationships.

Although he appeared to have a perfect life with his influencer wife, Joyce, his passing reveals the existence of a second wife, a mistress and another partner — triggering revenge, conflict and the collapse of his empire.

As the show continues trending, viewers remain divided over whether it offers a realistic portrayal of polygamy or highlights the consequences of dishonesty and betrayal in relationships.
