From the Pulpit to Parliament- Pastor Kanyari Announces Bid for Kasarani MP Seat

Controversial preacher Victor Kanyari has officially set his sights on the Kasarani Member of Parliament seat for the 2027 general election. The announcement marks a significant escalation in his political ambitions, as he had previously hinted at running for the Njiru Ward MCA position.

The Congregation’s Choice

During a Sunday service on April 12, 2026, Kanyari engaged his congregants in a live “consultation,” asking them to decide his political future. When the crowd overwhelmingly backed a run for the National Assembly over a ward-level seat, the Salvation Healing Ministry founder declared he would follow their lead.

“Kasarani Constituency, get ready; in 2027 I’m vying for MP Kasarani,” he later confirmed in a public message, signaling a formal pivot to the parliamentary race.

“Leaders Are Failing”

Kanyari framed his candidacy as a direct challenge to the status quo, accusing current representatives of neglecting the needs of the people. Speaking to his supporters, he claimed that his entry into the race was born out of a necessity for better service delivery.

“Nasimama na watu wa Kasarani kwa sababu viongozi ambao wako hawafanyi kazi,” (I am standing with the people of Kasarani because the current leaders are not working), he asserted.

A Grassroots Platform

Despite the jump to the parliamentary level, Kanyari appears to be maintaining the populist, welfare-driven agenda he initially promoted in Njiru. His campaign promises focus heavily on direct relief for families, including:

  • Education: A pledge to eliminate school fees for constituents’ children.

  • Basic Needs: Plans to provide school uniforms for needy pupils.

  • Food Security: The distribution of essential food aid, such as maize flour, to vulnerable households.

As Kanyari transitions from “Prophet” to “Mheshimiwa,” his bid is expected to shake up the Kasarani political landscape, leaning heavily on his existing church network and his recent high-profile visibility in the “Vurugu” entertainment scene to mobilize voters.
