Geoffrey Mosiria Opens Up On Circumstances That Led To His Demotion

Nairobi Chief County Officer Geoffrey Mosiria has openly revealed the circumstances surrounding his demotion from the county’s powerful environment docket, stating that his rigorous enforcement measures led to a fallout with influential individuals.

Speaking on Monday, December 1, Mosiria confirmed that his transfer was not a surprise, but rather the direct result of his efforts to crack down on illegal activities that did not align with the interests of people he described as ‘untouchables.’

He explained that his shift from the Environment docket to Citizen Engagement and Customer Services was triggered by his persistent confrontation with powerful figures over unlawful developments within the county.

“I indeed trampled on those who are untouchable, I trampled on the untouchables until some of them got irritated by me, but I do not fear man, I only fear God, who is powerful,” Mosiria asserted.

He recalled several instances of halting unauthorized construction, specifically mentioning one project he claimed belonged to a very rich and influential person, which generated heavy backlash.

“Some people were building on the river, and many of them had big clubs… We went and stopped them, and before I was taken away, I remember stopping a big club that had not been touched,” he added.

Mosiria maintained that his decision to shut down unlawful clubs and private developments was solely informed by genuine public concerns and was not driven by political motivation.

Despite the demotion, Mosiria insisted that he remains committed to serving Nairobi residents and that the change in roles would not impact his performance. “I am still working to help the people… I look at the office in terms of the service that we will offer to the people,” he reiterated.

His transfer comes two weeks after Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja implemented a county leadership reshuffle. A notice dated November 18, 2025, confirmed Mosiria’s removal, with Hibram Otieno, previously in charge of medical facilities, replacing him in the environment department. Mosiria’s tenure in the Environment docket was marked by frequent, high-profile inspections and enforcement actions against non-compliant businesses and residential buildings.
