Jaymo Ule Msee Under Fire After Labeling 2025 Anniversary Protests “Fake” and “Tribal”
Jaymo Ule Msee is once again the target of online ire after dismissing this year’s 25 June demonstrations as “very fake” and “tribally tilted,” sparking a fresh wave of criticism and personal attacks on social media.
In a string of Facebook posts, Jaymo compared the 2025 protests unfavorably to last year’s nationwide #RejectFinanceBill2024 rallies, writing:
“25th 2024 – Authentic & genuine maandamano with impact.
25th 2025 – Very fake maandamano with a tribal leaning and zero impact.”
While the 2024 protests drew massive, cross-county participation and forced the government to respond, this year’s commemorations—still met by a heavy police presence and isolated clashes—registered less visible momentum in some quarters. Even so, many Kenyans regard the current demonstrations as a genuine outcry against police brutality, corruption, and soaring living costs. To brand them “fake” and “tribal,” critics argue, only belittles these grievances and deepens social divisions.
Comment Sections Closed, Critics Angrier
Screenshots circulating online show that Jaymo disabled comments on several of his contentious posts—fueling accusations that he was avoiding accountability. Responding to taunts to reopen the threads, he quipped:
“‘Open comments if you are a man’ is the most INTELLIGENT and popular message my people are sending. They’re insulting me—cool… surely.”
Missed Calls, “Harassment,” and Sympathy Play?
Compounding the backlash, the comedian shared screenshots of his phone log displaying numerous missed calls and messages, implying critics were bombarding him. Some observers viewed the move as an attempt to draw sympathy by showcasing what he described as “greetings” from unhappy callers.
With his posts now viral across Kenyan timelines, Jaymo Ule Msee has become a lightning rod in the broader debate over the legitimacy and trajectory of Kenya’s protest movement—one that many say remains as urgent as ever, regardless of any social-media hot takes.
