Karen Nyamu’s Outfit Sparks Heated Debate in Senate

Drama unfolded in the Kenyan Senate after Nairobi Senator Karen Nyamu came under fire for her choice of attire, igniting a debate on parliamentary decorum.

Point of Order Raised

Kitui Senator Enock Wambua flagged the matter, questioning whether Nyamu’s dressing breached House rules.

“Mr. Speaker, have you seen Senator Karen Nyamu and the way she is dressed today?” he asked, warning that overlooking the issue could set a dangerous precedent.

He added: “Next time, I’ll walk in with my jacket hanging on my shoulder, and I will demand that you take precedent of what has happened.”

Speaker’s Ruling

Senate Speaker Amason Kingi quickly intervened, declaring Nyamu “out of order.” He noted that she had entered the chamber with only one side of her jacket worn, the other hanging loosely.

The Speaker also pointed out that Senator Fernandes, who escorted her in, shared some responsibility: “In fact, your guilt is as charged.”

Despite the ruling, Kingi opted for leniency—Nyamu received only a warning instead of harsher sanctions.

Reactions Inside and Outside Parliament

The incident quickly went viral, sparking widespread debate online.

  • @wyzz00: “Mps admiring their crush more than their votes.”

  • @georgeoketch12: “Attention seeker drama Queen always trending for funny reasons.”

Critics applauded the Speaker’s firmness, insisting dress code rules must apply equally to all lawmakers.

For Nyamu, the controversy adds to her reputation as a polarising and attention-grabbing figure in Parliament.
