Laura Mbatha Sparks Debate After Saying Good Husbands ‘Deserve’ More Than One Wife
Kenyan digital creator Laura Mbatha has ignited debate on social media after sharing her views on marriage and polygamy, arguing that exceptional husbands should not be limited to having only one wife.
Speaking during a recent podcast, Laura explained that she believes responsible and caring men have an important role to play in society, particularly when it comes to providing stability and protection for women.
“For real, like, mimi sasa kama mimi kusema like, if you’re truly a good husband, you deserve a second wife. Because hata mimi kama dame, I want women to be protected,” she said.
‘Good Men Should Protect More Women’
Laura said her perspective is driven by a desire to see more women supported and cared for, arguing that genuinely good husbands are rare and should not be confined to one marriage.
Her comments drew laughter from her co-hosts, but she stood by her opinion, insisting that she views polygamy as a way of extending security to more women rather than undermining relationships.
“If I believe you are a good man, like inanikula. Wasichana wote waprotectiwe na this good man. This, my man, great man. Atawaokota wanne,” she said.
She added that it troubles her to think that many women are searching for dependable partners while men she considers exceptional remain in monogamous marriages.
Would Allow Her Husband to Marry More Wives
The content creator went on to say that she would have no problem allowing her own husband to marry additional wives if he proved to be an outstanding partner.
According to Laura, keeping a great husband to oneself denies other women the opportunity to experience the care and stability such a partner can provide. She emphasized that the issue is one she feels strongly about and said it genuinely concerns her when good men are unavailable to others.
Her remarks have since sparked mixed reactions across Kenyan social media. While some users agreed that her argument highlights the importance of responsible men in society, others maintained that modern marriages should remain strictly monogamous. The discussion has reignited conversations about how younger Kenyans view traditional marriage practices in today’s society.
