MC Jessy Set To Vie For Political Seat To ‘Fix’ The Creative Economy

Veteran comedian and media personality Jasper Muthomi, better known as MC Jessy, has officially declared his bid for a parliamentary seat in the upcoming 2027 General Election.

During an interview on Friday, February 13, 2026, the entertainer emphasized that his primary motivation is to fix the creative economy

Jessy noted a disconnect between lawmakers and actual creators, stating that many members of the Digital Content Creators Association of Kenya (which he co-founded) weren’t even involved in the drafting process.

The goal to move the bill from “sitting in Parliament” to becoming a law that protects and compensates artists.

”If I were in parliament, would it still be sitting there?” Jessy questioned, suggesting a lack of urgency among current legislators regarding the industry.

Addressing the “Broke Creator” Reality

Beyond legislation, Jessy touched on the financial struggles hidden behind the glitz of social media. He warned that the flashy lifestyles, expensive cars and mansions, often seen online are frequently paid promotions rather than reflections of actual wealth.

Key concerns raised by Jessy

Financial Instability: He observed that after traveling abroad and comparing industries, many Kenyan creatives are effectively “broke” despite their fame.

Sustainable Earnings: His platform focuses on ensuring content creators can afford a “real life” rather than just a curated digital image.

Industry Empowerment: By passing the Creative Economy Bill, Jessy argues that creators will see significantly higher earnings than they do today.

The 2027 Political Wave

Jessy isn’t the only entertainer eyeing a political career. His announcement follows similar moves by other public figures, including KRG the Don (Nairobi Senatorial race) and Mziza (Pipeline MCA seat), signaling a potential “creative wave” in the 2027 elections.
