Milly Chebby Opens Up About Emergency Surgery Following Ectopic Pregnancy During Family Vacation

What began as a relaxing getaway turned into a frightening ordeal when Chebby experienced severe abdominal cramps that escalated rapidly. After consulting her gynecologist, she was advised to take a pregnancy test—despite being on family planning. The result was a shock: she was pregnant.
“When I took the test, Terence didn’t even know,” Chebby recalled. “I handed him the kit and he was excited. I just looked at him thinking, ‘I wish he knew.’” Unknown to him, Chebby was already experiencing internal bleeding.
As her pain intensified, her doctor urged her to get to the hospital immediately for further evaluation.
Diagnosis: Ectopic Pregnancy
Doctors soon confirmed that Chebby was suffering from an ectopic pregnancy—a serious condition where a fertilized egg implants outside the uterus, often in a fallopian tube. Such pregnancies are non-viable and can be life-threatening if not treated promptly.
Chebby later learned that the internal bleeding had started days earlier, though she had mistaken it for ordinary cramps. “It only took an hour for everything to spiral,” she said.
Emergency Surgery and Loss of a Fallopian Tube
Chebby was rushed into emergency surgery to stop the bleeding and remove the affected fallopian tube. Her doctor explained, “She had been bleeding for two to three days. It was the left fallopian tube, and we had to remove it. The right tube is still healthy.”
Though the surgery was successful, the emotional toll was heavy. The couple had only just discovered they were expecting—only to lose the pregnancy almost immediately.
An Emotional Whirlwind
Terence described the experience as an emotional rollercoaster, moving from joy to heartbreak in a matter of hours. “I thought, at least we’re not yet 40—we have time to raise another child,” he said, reflecting on the fleeting excitement.
Chebby’s candid account resonated with many, especially women who have gone through similar losses. By sharing her story, she brought attention to a condition that is often misunderstood or kept in the shadows.
Understanding Ectopic Pregnancy
An ectopic pregnancy occurs when a fertilized egg implants outside the uterine cavity—most commonly in the fallopian tubes, which cannot support a growing embryo. If left untreated, the condition can cause the tube to rupture, leading to severe internal bleeding and even death.
Symptoms often include sharp abdominal pain, unusual vaginal bleeding, and shoulder pain. Treatment may involve medication or, as in Chebby’s case, surgery.
Chebby’s experience is a reminder of how quickly a pregnancy can become a medical emergency—and the strength it takes to face such a loss.
