Planned Power Interruptions to Affect Multiple Regions on April 9

Several parts of the country are set to experience scheduled power interruptions on Thursday, April 9, 2026, as part of ongoing maintenance works by Kenya Power.

The planned outages will affect areas across Nairobi, Kajiado, Kisii, Nyeri, Kiambu, Kitui, Mombasa, Kilifi, Tana River, and Taita Taveta counties, with most interruptions expected to last between eight and nine hours.

Nairobi Region

In Nairobi, parts of Parklands will be without electricity from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., including sections of General Mathenge, Ring Road, Suswa Road, Kusi Lane, Mpaka Road, and surrounding areas.

Meanwhile, parts of Umoja 2 will face outages from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., affecting areas such as St. Veronica Catholic Church, Umoja 2 Zone 8, Tumaini School, Kifaru School, and nearby customers.

Kajiado County

In Kitengela, power will be interrupted from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., affecting multiple estates and institutions including Ideal, Bonito Estate, Maasai Flowers, Acacia Paradise, Optiven, Enkacity Resort, and surrounding areas.

South Nyanza Region

Parts of Kisii County, including Keroka Town, Ichuni, and Nyanturago, will experience outages from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Key locations affected include Keroka TTC, Ichuni Girls, Nyanturago Secondary, and nearby markets.

Additional outages will impact Nyangweta, Etago, and Ekona areas during the same hours, covering schools, trading centres, and residential zones.

Mt. Kenya Region

In Nyeri County, areas such as Thangathi and Kiuu will be affected from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., while parts of Kiambu County—including Kibichoi and Komothai—will experience outages from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Kitui County will also see interruptions in areas such as Migwani, Musuani, and Kyamboo during the same timeframe.

Coast Region

In Mombasa County, parts of Nyali, VOK, and Bombolulu will be affected from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., including residential estates, schools, and business premises.

Kilifi County areas such as Kakoneni and Jilore will also experience outages, alongside Mariakani town and surrounding institutions including hospitals and law courts.

Further interruptions are expected in parts of Tana River County, particularly Masalani, as well as several areas in Taita Taveta County including Sikujua, Mwakingali, Tausa, Lukasinyi, and Mlundinyi.

Advisory to Customers

Kenya Power has advised affected customers to plan accordingly and take necessary precautions during the outage period. The utility company typically undertakes such scheduled interruptions to facilitate maintenance and improve reliability of the electricity network.

Residents and businesses in the affected areas are encouraged to make alternative arrangements ahead of the scheduled downtime.
