Raphael Tuju Resurfaces As He Narrates Ordeal
Former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju has broken his silence following a missing person report that sparked national concern. Speaking to the press on Monday, March 23, 2026, a visibly shaken but grateful Tuju recounted a harrowing ordeal involving an unidentified vehicle that forced him into hiding.
The incident began on Saturday evening while Tuju was en route to a scheduled interview at Ramogi FM. Tuju, who often prefers to drive himself, noticed he was being followed by a vehicle without license plates—a detail that particularly alarmed him given previous police encounters at his home involving unmarked Land Rovers.
By the time Tuju reached the Karen Roundabout, the suspicious vehicle had closed the gap, positioned “back-to-back” with his car. Utilizing his intimate knowledge of the Karen suburbs, Tuju made a sudden turn into Nandi Road. The layout of the road forced his pursuers to either face oncoming traffic or take a long detour, providing the crucial seconds Tuju needed to vanish.

Seeking Refuge
After successfully shaking off the tail, Tuju took the drastic step of abandoning his vehicle along the road. He sought immediate shelter with a local family who took him in, providing a safe haven throughout Sunday. Tuju expressed deep relief during the presser, stating he is grateful to be alive in light of recent reported deaths across the country.
Context of Concern
This was not an isolated fear for the former Jubilee Secretary General. Tuju revealed that he had already filed a formal police report and shared the specific report number with the press, noting that he had been followed in the days leading up to Saturday. He remained with the Good Samaritan family until Sunday night before finally returning to his residence and surfacing publicly on Monday morning.
