Ruto’s Son Set To Unveil New Luxury Matatu Estimated To Be Worth Over Ksh 13 Million

President William Ruto’s son, George Ruto, has reignited public debate and excitement within Nairobi’s transport sector after being spotted at a garage overseeing the customisation of a new matatu, reportedly the latest addition to his expanding transport empire.

Enthusiasts of Nairobi’s vibrant matatu culture are eagerly awaiting the announcement of its designated route. Speculation is rife that the vehicle will likely ply either the Embakasi or Rongai routes. This follows the recent rerouting of another matatu in George Ruto’s fleet, famously known as ‘Manifest’, which was moved from Rongai to Embakasi after past controversies concerning its road conduct.

“Kenyans and everybody else are eagerly waiting. Some drivers have already started showing up, hoping to land a position behind the wheel, lobbying for the new matatu to be stationed on either the Embakasi or Rongai route,” stated a source identified as Marshall, highlighting the high demand.

Adding another layer of intrigue, there are also reports suggesting that this new matatu could be diverted from traditional Public Service Vehicle (PSV) routes and instead be positioned within the private or corporate sector for hire. This would mark a notable shift from the typical public transport model, indicating a potential foray into a more exclusive, luxury transport service.

According to insider sources, the matatu, named ‘Doom’, is being outfitted with an array of high-end features designed to enhance passenger experience. These include a 65-inch TV screen, a live DJ mixing deck, solar panels, and luxurious bucket seats imported directly from China. ‘Doom’ is set to become the first matatu in Kenya to feature bucket seats in a 25-seater capacity layout, which significantly reduces the typical 32-seater configuration to offer enhanced luxury and spaciousness. The seating arrangement will follow a 2-by-1 design, complete with an on-board deejay booth for entertainment during commutes or private events.

The matatu gained significant traction and became a trending topic after George Ruto himself was photographed posing beside it, holding a customised number plate, further stirring online excitement. Industry experts estimate that the entire project costs between Ksh13 million and Ksh14 million. The chassis and body are said to have accounted for approximately Ksh6.8 million, with the elaborate lighting system costing around Ksh2.5 million, and the custom sound system adding another Ksh300,000 to the overall budget.

With its unique features, high-end build, and substantial investment, ‘Doom’ is poised to make significant waves in the Nairobi matatu scene – whether as a premium route vehicle setting new standards for public transport or as a distinctive statement piece within Kenya’s burgeoning creative and commercial transport industry.
