Sammy Kioko finally receives partial payment of his Ksh19 million debt from Machakos County – Just 20K
The ongoing dispute between Kenyan content creator Sammy Kioko and the Machakos County Government has taken a fresh twist after the comedian shared proof of a partial payment.
Kioko posted a screenshot of an M-Pesa notification on Instagram showing a transfer of KSh20,000—an amount that comes months after a public standoff over an alleged unpaid debt. He maintains that the county owes him a total of KSh19 million for services rendered.
A Fraction of the Claimed Amount
The KSh20,000 payment represents only a small portion of the amount Kioko says is outstanding—roughly 0.11% of the total claim. In practical terms, for every KSh1,000 he alleges is owed, the payment accounts for just over one shilling.
“Out of 19 million, the only money that we have received is 20k through M-Pesa from the Chief Finance Officer, Machakos County,” Kioko captioned the post.
He described the move as a form of manipulation and intimidation, expressing frustration over the handling of the matter.
Months of Escalating Tension
The dispute intensified in early February 2026 when Kioko, alongside his sister, staged a protest by camping overnight outside county offices in Machakos. He said the drastic step came after exhausting formal channels in pursuit of the payment, describing the experience as “humiliating but necessary.”
County Maintains Its Position
The Machakos County Government has consistently denied having a direct contractual relationship with Kioko. In November 2025, County Solicitor Juliet Nthambi dismissed his claims, stating that he is not a registered supplier and does not appear in official procurement records.
According to the county’s procurement department, the tender in question was awarded to a separate registered entity, which did not list Kioko as a director. Officials also indicated that incomplete deliveries during the initial phase of the contract contributed to delays in payment.
Personal and Financial Strain
The dispute has taken a toll on Kioko’s personal life. He has previously revealed that he was forced to shut down business operations and even put his car up for sale to cover his sister’s medical expenses.
Despite the challenges, he has received support from the public. During an appearance on The Obinna Show, fans reportedly contributed over KSh221,000 to help him navigate the financial difficulties.
As the situation unfolds, the latest payment has reignited debate online about delayed payments and accountability in county governments.
