Kenyan rapper King Kaka combined family and music on Sunday, September 21, as he celebrated his son Iroma’s 8th birthday during the grand finale of The Next SuperStar Kenya talent competition at City Hall, Nairobi.
The event was attended by senior officials from the State Department for Youth Affairs and Creative Economy and hosted by media personality Amina Abdi Rabar alongside comedian Eddie Butita. King Kaka served as a star judge with Size 8 and producer Motif Di Don.
A Touching Birthday Tribute
In the middle of the live show, King Kaka paused the competition to honour his son. Calling Iroma to the stage, he went down on one knee before the cheering crowd and shared heartfelt words:
“Iroma, I just want to let you know that you changed my life and I love you so much. Happy birthday.”
The moment, sealed with a father-son embrace, drew loud applause and quickly trended online. Later, Kaka echoed the message on Instagram, posting a photo with Iroma and expressing his pride as a father.
Co-Parenting with Nana Owiti
Earlier this year, King Kaka and media personality Nana Owiti confirmed their separation after years of marriage, amid speculation of infidelity. Despite the split, the two remain committed to co-parenting their children, including Iroma.
Both parents frequently share glimpses of their bond with the kids on social media, underscoring their shared focus on providing a stable and supportive upbringing.
Celebrating Talent
After the emotional interlude, King Kaka turned back to his role as judge, commending the contestants for their resilience and artistry.

“The talent I have seen here is great, and I hope they continue pushing. It may not end here on stage—you are all superstars, so let’s take it to the next level.”
The night’s top prize went to gospel singer and barber Joseph Japhet (Jose Jay), whose soulful performance won over judges and fans. He walked away with KSh1 million, becoming Kenya’s inaugural Next SuperStar.
