Nyambane Reveals the KSh 21 Million Lesson From His Radio Days

Veteran comedian and radio host Walter Mong’are, better known as Nyambane, has opened up about one of the costliest moments of his media career.

Speaking on the Tubonge Podcast with Chris The Bass, the mimic comedian revealed that a single on-air exchange during his radio days ended with a staggering KSh 21 million lawsuit.

The Cost of Crossfire

Nyambane recalled the incident from his time co-hosting a morning show with Caroline Mutoko. According to him, Caroline was “very, very upset” with Martha Karua one morning and let her frustrations spill on-air.

Although Mong’are insists he never said anything defamatory himself, Karua sued them both.

“Caroline and I were on air one morning, and I think she was very upset with Martha Karua. Whatever happened that morning, I never said anything that would get me to the corridors of justice, but Martha Karua sued us and we paid her KSh 21 million,” he revealed.

The comedian described the experience as “taking a shot for your partner,” since both he and Caroline were sued as individuals alongside the station.

From Redykyulass to Radio

Before his radio fame, Nyambane was a household name as part of the legendary comedy trio Redykyulass, alongside Tony and KJ. The group, born at Kenyatta University, became a national sensation with its razor-sharp political satire.

Known for mimicking presidents and politicians, Nyambane said their comedy carried a serious mission:

“It was comedy reflecting the ills in society, but from a sober perspective. We laugh about it, then it sticks, and then you change.”

Redykyulass eventually bowed out in 2005, redirecting their efforts toward civic engagement—encouraging young people to see voting and politics as a duty.

Comedy, Politics, and Leadership

Nyambane’s journey didn’t end with laughs. He transitioned from comedy to radio, then into leadership, even serving as Youth Advisor to President Uhuru Kenyatta between 2017 and 2022. He also ran for president in 2022.

Despite the hefty price tag of the Karua case, Mong’are says he and the People’s Liberation Party leader now meet and discuss national issues—but he’s never once brought up the lawsuit.

For Nyambane, the lesson is clear: comedy may be funny, but the consequences are very real.

Martha Karua Calls For Ruto’s Resignation Amidst Growing Public Outcry

People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua is urging President William Ruto and his entire administration to resign, aligning with the surging “Ruto must go” calls from Kenyans on social media and through street protests.

This demand comes amidst widespread frustration from citizens who accuse Ruto’s leadership of being marked by corruption, neglect of ordinary Kenyans’ needs, a skyrocketing cost of living, police brutality, extrajudicial killings, and the arbitrary arrest of government critics.

On Friday, President Ruto brushed off the chants and the public’s labeling of him as a one-term head of state. “If it is a question of terms, the Constitution has already sorted out and settled the issue of term limits. You can either be one or two-term… You cannot have more than that. So what is this craze about terms?” Ruto questioned. “If it is Ruto must go, then tell me how you want me to go. What do you mean by Ruto must go? How do I go? Because we have a constitution in place.”

In response, Karua challenged Ruto to “respect the voice of the people” by resigning. She warned that if he fails to do so, Kenyans have the power to remove him even before his term concludes.

“Take the same route you took to get where you are. You could resign; if you truly respected the voice of the people, you would have resigned by now, with your entire government, and go home,” the former justice minister told Spice FM in a Tuesday interview.

Karua added, “But because you won’t, whether in 2027, or earlier, the people will remove you. You may continue to kill as you are killing now, but you cannot kill everyone,” referencing the increasing number of police killings of anti-government protesters.

Echoes of Dictatorship

Calling Ruto an imitator of Idi Amin Dada, the brutal Ugandan military dictator overthrown in 1979, Karua asserted that Ruto will ultimately not withstand what she terms “the will of the people.”

“History has shown us tyrants and dictators who ruled through terror and none of them have ever survived the will of the people,” she stated. “Not even Idi Amin, whom Ruto seems to be imitating. Al Bashir had a very serious army but he still went down.”

In the PLP leader’s view, “power resides with the people,” and Kenyans have the right to “fire” Ruto for what she describes as the current administration’s overthrow of the Constitution.

Why Martha Karua Encourages Young Couples to Sign Prenups

Martha Karua is advocating for young couples to adopt the practice of signing prenuptial agreements or registering property under both partners’ names.

In Kenya, prenuptial agreements are still uncommon, with most married couples not having such contracts. However, Karua, a seasoned lawyer and former family advocate, is encouraging the younger generation to consider prenups before marriage or, at the very least, ensure joint ownership of assets.

A prenuptial agreement is a legally binding contract that outlines how a couple’s assets, debts, and spousal support will be managed in the event of divorce or the death of a partner. It serves to safeguard each individual’s financial interests.

“I think people should have prenups to avoid disputes should the need arise. In Kenya, we’ve had to fight for women to get the recognition they deserve in property matters. In the past, salaries were controlled by husbands, and properties were often registered solely in their names, with very few being jointly owned. As a former family lawyer, I know for a fact that many women from my mother’s generation and even my own had little to no property registered under their names,” Karua stated on the Financial Incorrect podcast.

She emphasized that a prenup or joint ownership is important regardless of whether both partners are earning.

“If you’re a stay-at-home mother raising children and managing the household, you are still contributing directly and indirectly. A prenup ensures that your contributions are recognized,” she added.

Karua clarified that having a prenup does not diminish love or trust in a relationship but serves as a precaution.

“It doesn’t mean I love you less—it’s just about being prepared. If you don’t have a prenup, ensure that everything acquired is in joint names. It’s not a matter of distrust, but consider what happens if one partner passes away—relatives may come forward with claims. To avoid such issues, register property under both names,” she advised.

Martha Karua, leader of Narc Kenya, confirmed the exit on social media, stating that the party’s position within Azimio is no longer sustainable. This move comes despite Karua’s recent comments suggesting a strong relationship with Azimio’s leader, Raila Odinga.

Karua emphasized the need for a robust opposition rather than participating in a government of national unity. She also supported Raila’s decision to potentially withdraw his candidacy for the African Union Commission, viewing it as a positive step for their cause.

The decision to leave comes after Narc Kenya, along with the Wiper party, was excluded from President William Ruto’s latest Cabinet nominations. Both parties have consistently refused to join Ruto’s proposed government of national unity, which followed protests against the Finance Bill, 2024.

Raila Odinga has distanced himself from the process of selecting ODM members for the new Cabinet, expressing his well-wishes but emphasizing the need for broader national engagement.

Meanwhile, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has dismissed rumors of a possible appointment in Ruto’s Cabinet, particularly as Attorney General, describing such an appointment as unlikely and inconsistent with his previous high-ranking roles.

Kalonzo reaffirmed his stance against joining the government of national unity, emphasizing a commitment to stand with the Kenyan people against the Kenya Kwanza regime. He criticized recent Cabinet changes as merely superficial and reiterated his party’s loyalty to the public.

Zero chills! Martha Karua shreds US First Lady Melania Trump

US First Lady Melania Trump charted her own course by deciding to travel to Africa on her own without her controversial husband Donald Trump who called African countries shithole.

Melania’s visit saw her travel to four African countries – Ghana, Malawi, Kenya and Egypt. Martha Karua on Sunday questioned the purpose of Melania’s solo trip to Africa.

The whole drama started after the US First Lady took to Twitter to tell people to focus on what she does rather than what she wears.

Karua quickly asked Melania to clarify what exactly she does, it was a rhetorical question that made many to poke fun at the US First Lady.

Melania’s campaign

Trump’s wife was in Africa to advance her campaign for children’s rights using her Be Best program. Her program aims at bettering the  lives of children in the four countries she visited.

“Help me raise money to pay Martha Karua” Moses Kuria sends a humble plea to Kenyans

Moses Kuria has been forced by the court to pay Martha Karua millions of shillings. The Gatundu South MP defamed the Narc Kenya party leader and the court made him pay for it.

Moses Kuria sensationally claimed Martha Karua procured witnesses in the case against Deputy President William Ruto at The Hague. The controversial MP said this during a rally in Kapsokwony, Bungoma County on September 21, 2015

Karua through her lawyer Gitobu Imanyara issued a demand letter asking Moses Kuria to withdraw the remarks and apologize.

The stubborn Gatundu South MP made the same remarks at the precincts of parliament instead of apologizing. Kuria’s rudeness would later cost him 6.5 million.

Marth Karua had asked for Kes 20 million in compensation but Justice Joseph Sergon said Kes 6.5 million was sufficient.

“Today I was instructed by the court to pay child support amounting to Ksh 6.5 Million. I will be holding a series of Harambees accross the country so that you, my supporters can help me. The first Harambee will be held at Kerugoya stadium in the next few weeks. The date will be announced here soon,” wrote Moses Kuria on Facebook.
