Actress and radio personality Jacquey Nyaminde, known as Wilbroda, has opened up about her decision to remain single, stating that societal pressure will not influence her personal choices.

Speaking on the Mic Cheque podcast, Wilbroda revealed that she has no desire to get married. “I honestly imagine that I do not want to get married. Truly. Sometimes I hear people saying,

‘Oh, you are getting older, you will not get married.’ But I do not want to get married. I am just fine as I am,” she said.

The Appeal of Independence

Wilbroda explained that the thought of sharing a life with a partner, including a bed and personal space, does not appeal to her. She expressed a strong preference for her independence and personal comfort.

“Me, I cannot sleep with someone in one bed,” she stated. “I just imagine now, every day, for the rest of my life, I am just there sleeping next to someone, and he keeps snoring. No.”

She noted that if she were to be in a relationship, she would prefer a partnership without cohabitation, similar to how some couples in other countries live. “I would want us to just be something like partners… And they live in separate homes, each with their own,” she added.

Wilbroda’s comments shed light on the immense pressure African women often face to conform to traditional marriage norms. Despite the criticism, she affirmed that her personal happiness and autonomy are more important than public opinion.
