Speaking during a recent episode of Thoughts In A Culli, the Somebody’s Son hitmaker acknowledged that while Nigerian men are generous and stylish, they often fall short in the romance department.
“Nigerian men do have swag, and they can spend, but they’re not very romantic,” Tiwa said. “That’s what I’m looking for — not the money or the lifestyle.”
Savage emphasized that she’s financially independent and not drawn to men based on wealth. Instead, she values emotional connection and affectionate gestures, which she feels are often missing in relationships with Nigerian men.
Her remarks contrast the experiences of many women — especially from Kenya — who have publicly praised Nigerian men for being expressive and affectionate.
Tiwa was previously married to Nigerian music executive Tunji “TeeBillz” Balogun. The marriage lasted from 2013 to 2018 and they share a son, Jamal.
In a December 2024 interview, the singer reflected on the emotional challenges she faced during her marriage, particularly while dealing with postpartum depression.
“It was a tough time. I felt like I did everything right and still got judged. That’s when I changed — I became the ‘African Bad Girl,’” she shared. “I started getting tattoos, wearing short skirts and bikinis — I was just angry and wanted to be free.”
