Trump Sparks Backlash Over “Christ-Like” AI Image & Attacks “Weak” Pope Leo XIV

President Donald Trump has ignited a fresh wave of controversy following a series of provocative posts on Truth Social, featuring a highly stylized AI-generated image and a direct verbal assault on the papacy.

The image at the center of the storm depicts Trump in a central, venerated position, surrounded by figures including a uniformed army officer, a nurse, and individuals in prayer-like poses who appear to be looking to him for spiritual or moral guidance. The backdrop of the digital artwork is heavily layered with patriotic and religious symbolism, featuring a beam of light, an American flag, an eagle, the Statue of Liberty, and five unidentified figures holding hands in a display of unity.

Critics were quick to label the imagery as messianic, but Trump dismissed the backlash, offering a different interpretation of the AI creation. Responding to the criticism, he claimed he viewed the image as a medical tribute rather than a religious one.

“I thought it was me as a doctor and had to do with Red Cross, which we support,” Trump stated. “Only the fake news can come up with that one. I just heard about it and wondered how they came up with that. It’s supposed to be me as a doctor making people better, and I do make people better.”

The controversial post follows closely on the heels of a public fallout between the former president and the Vatican. In a separate Truth Social update, Trump took aim at Pope Leo XIV, labeling the pontiff “weak on crime” and “terrible for foreign policy.” Trump specifically cited global security concerns as the reason for his disapproval, writing, “I don’t want a Pope who thinks it’s OK for Iran to have a Nuclear Weapon.”

The dual incidents have once again placed Trump at the intersection of political strategy, religious symbolism, and digital media, drawing both sharp condemnation from religious leaders and staunch defense from his supporters.
