Vurugu 2: Jalang’o taunted with “Wantam” heckles as he realises his political future is bleak

Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwuor faced an awkward moment on Saturday night during the Vurugu 2 boxing and entertainment event in Nairobi after sections of the crowd erupted into “Wantam” chants when he was introduced on stage.

The incident happened as the event host attempted to invite the MP to address the audience. However, immediately after his name was mentioned, some attendees responded with loud chants that disrupted the planned introduction.

“Wantam! Wantam!” sections of the crowd could be heard shouting repeatedly as the moment unfolded.

According to people who attended the event, the reaction intensified within seconds, making it difficult for the MC to continue with the programme. The unexpected response shifted attention away from the scheduled proceedings, forcing organisers to briefly pause.

During the interruption, Jalang’o appeared to remain largely focused on the situation as the chants continued, while the MC attempted to keep the segment moving despite the unsettled atmosphere.

Obinna steps in

The situation was eventually handled by event host Oga Obinna, who stepped forward to calm the crowd and restore order.

Obinna acknowledged the energy from attendees but urged them to allow the show to continue as planned.

“We need to continue the show,” he told the audience.

He then directed DJ Nickde to play music for about 10 minutes, a move aimed at easing the tension and giving organisers time to reset the programme.

The music break helped shift the audience’s focus back to the entertainment, allowing the event to regain momentum.

Vurugu 2 continues

After the brief disruption, the Vurugu 2 event resumed with its scheduled boxing matches and performances.

The event, organised by media personality Oga Obinna, brought together celebrity boxing, live entertainment and public figures, attracting a large crowd and creating a highly charged atmosphere throughout the night.
