Vybz Kartel finally speaks on his Kenyan concert
Vybz Kartel has denied reports claiming he will tour East Africa in May 2026, stating that neither he nor his management team is aware of the events currently being promoted online.
In a statement shared through his verified social media accounts, the artist cautioned fans, promoters, and venues that advertisements circulating about the alleged tour are unauthorized and potentially misleading.
“Let me be absolutely clear: neither my management nor I have any knowledge of, or involvement in, any such tour,” Kartel said.
He stressed that no performances in East Africa have been confirmed by his team and warned supporters against interacting with individuals promoting the shows or sending money for tickets, noting that doing so could expose them to fraud.
Warning to Fans and Promoters
Kartel said people advertising the supposed concerts could be attempting to scam fans and stakeholders in the entertainment industry. According to the musician:
-
No East African shows have been announced by his official team.
-
Promoters advertising the concerts are acting without authorization.
-
Fans should avoid sending money or purchasing tickets through unofficial channels.
“Fans, promoters and venues are strongly advised not to engage with or send money to anyone making such claims, as these may be scams,” he warned.
The dancehall icon added that any legitimate updates about his performances will only be communicated through his verified platforms or authorized representatives. He identified his manager, Linton T.J. White, and attorney Jason Mitchell as the only individuals authorized to handle bookings on his behalf.
Festival Announcement Had Sparked Excitement
Kartel’s clarification comes after organisers of the Talanta East Afrika Festival announced him as the headline act for the event’s launch in Kampala.
The festival had been scheduled to begin on May 1, 2026, at Lugogo Cricket Oval and was expected to feature several artists from Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda as part of a broader cultural showcase.
However, Kartel’s statement has now cast doubt on the previously announced lineup and raised questions about whether the festival will proceed as originally planned.
A Global Dancehall Influence
Born Adidja Palmer in Kingston, Kartel is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in modern dancehall music. He rose to prominence in the late 1990s and has released several global hits, including Clarks, Fever, and Romping Shop.
His music enjoys a strong following across Africa, particularly in East Africa, where dancehall and reggae remain popular in clubs, on radio stations, and within street culture.
While he did not rule out the possibility of performing in the region in the future, Kartel reiterated that any confirmed concerts will be announced only through his official communication channels.
