Why Obinna Took Down His YouTube Content Featuring Dem Wa Facebook
Oga Obinna has opened up about the changes to his weekly show following his split from content creator Dem wa Facebook.
In a recent interview, Obinna explained that he rebranded the show after parting ways with Dem wa Facebook to shift its direction and prevent unnecessary comparisons with his new co-host, Kartelo.
“We wanted a level playing field so that people wouldn’t start comparing the two,” he said.
He clarified that the new format differs from the one he previously hosted with Dem wa Facebook. To mark a fresh start, he removed all their past content, noting that while both versions share similarities, the current one featuring Kartelo targets a different audience.
“The previous one was more official, but this one is not because Kartelo appeals more to watu wako kwa base,” he explained.
Addressing speculation about the removal of past videos, Obinna dismissed claims of bad blood, stating that the decision was meant to avoid unnecessary demands from fans.
“People started saying that since we are no longer working together but the content is still there, I should pay her for it, yet they don’t even know the nature of our agreement. The videos were not taken down due to bad blood,” he clarified.
Obinna also refuted suggestions that he should have created a separate channel for the rebranded show, emphasizing that his platform has always been under his control. He added that the new direction ensures there are no claims that the previous show contributed to the success of the revamped version.
Back in November, some Kenyans had hoped for a reconciliation between Obinna and his former co-host after he was spotted holding a contract with both their names on it, though he kept the details private.
This sparked excitement among fans, who flooded his comments with calls for a reunion. Speculation grew further when content creator Mama Kaunty blamed fan pressure for the show’s downfall. Additionally, Obinna’s absence from Dem wa Facebook’s birthday celebration fueled rumors of a strained relationship.
On November 20, when asked about the possibility of reviving the show, Obinna remained non-committal.
“I am not promising that the show will return. Possibilities are limitless when God is involved,” he said, confirming that he and Dem wa Facebook were no longer working together.
