Oscar award-winning Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong\u2019o has lost her grandmother. The family of Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong\u2019o is in mourning following the death his mother who was 98 years old.<\/p>\n

Mama Dorcas died at Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi on Tuesday where she was receiving treatment.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe keep the Governor and the entire family in our prayers at this very dark time in their lives. May the Lord rest her soul in eternal peace,\u201d read part of a statement by the governor\u2019s press unit.<\/em><\/p>\n

The death will be hard for the actress who was deeply connected to her. In 2015 she named her as one of the people she misses when abroad and promised always to visit her whenever she’s in the country.<\/p>\n

Raila Odinga also took to social media to mourn Mama Dorcas saying she’s loved her community.<\/p>\n

Mama @IdaOdinga<\/a> and I mourn the passing of Mama Dorcas Owino Nyongo, mother to Prof. @AnyangNyongo<\/a>. Dorcas was a true matriarch and pillar of the Nyongo family. She never stopped serving and guiding the family and the community she was part of despite her advancing years.<\/p>\n
