Celebrated gospel artist, Mercy Masika narrates traumatizing experiences with hubby, David Muguro that almost saw their marriage split.<\/p>\n

During an interview with \u00a8Samantha\u00b4s Bridal\u00a8, the two share their love story and the struggles that come with marriage.<\/p>\n

Dating<\/h2>\n

David kicks off:<\/p>\n

First time I saw Mercy was at a wedding, where I was shooting a video. She was singing there.<\/p>\n

I wanted to ask her to sing at my wedding; she would come to sing the same song.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Mercy responded by sharing her cell number.<\/p>\n

I was really nice person. I would give my number to people by then.<\/p>\n

He would send me timely scriptures. I couldn\u00b4t remember him because I gave a lot of people my number.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

However, as fate would have it, that was not the end of the road for the two.<\/p>\n

Five months later in January 2007, we met. On our first date, we liked each other.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Her hubby then recalls:<\/p>\n

That evening I remember I told her I don\u00b4t want to be in the public at all but then God does things in his own way.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

But with a fast forward, 18 months later, Masika reveals:<\/p>\n

My parents kept telling me I should get married within one year, if I met someone.<\/p>\n

\u00a8In 6 months you should be done if you\u00b4re sure because taking time is not good for Christians.\u00a8<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

With David reiterating:<\/p>\n

However long you take (to get married) there\u00b4s nothing new you\u00b4re going to learn about this person.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

But the couple\u00b4s take about it all was:<\/p>\n

Our vision was to get married, have kids and serve God.<\/p>\n

The best thing about marriage is when you\u00b4re able to work together in purpose, where you seek God together.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Marriage<\/h2>\n

The two now proudly celebrate 9 years of marriage, blessed with 2 kids.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Through it all, Mercy gives her opinion as to why marriages hardly last.<\/p>\n

A lot of marriages fail when you are doing totally different things.<\/p>\n

Because if you\u00b4re in East and your partner is West both of you meet a lot of people.<\/p>\n

I think it\u00b4s good to work together.<\/p>\n

We\u00b4re the best of friends because we go through the ups and downs together.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Speaking about her wedding day, the Kenyan gospel artist expresses:<\/p>\n

The vows, I was a bit numb. I was shaking.<\/p>\n

I used to say I\u00b4ll never cry…watu wanalianga nini…can\u00b4t you contain yourself?<\/p>\n

I cried the whole time. I don\u00b4t know why I did. I can\u00b4t tell. I think it\u00b4s spiritual.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Submission<\/h2>\n

However, that was just the first day, marriage is also about the days after and their journey has been rocky too.<\/p>\n

Our first fights I don\u00b4t remember but I recall there\u00b4s a time I packed and I was going home and then he came and talked to me.<\/p>\n

But what really shocked me was now we\u00b4re married, I have to cook, while he is watching TV.<\/p>\n

I was like \u00a8Aai it\u00b4s too much\u00a8 he wants to be a King. It was very challenging for me.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

A feeling that took the better part of her being and had to seek mentorship classes.<\/p>\n

I had packed 3 times and after mentorship classes with Rev Kathy Kiuna that\u00b4s when I settled.<\/p>\n

I didn\u00b4t understand submission. I was depressed about it.<\/p>\n

Funny enough I was in church and didn\u00b4t follow what submission was and we were being taught what to do.<\/p>\n

I would speak up how I think with no editing so it was challenging.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Mr and Mrs Muguro realized that marriage is no bed of roses, with lightning striking within the first few days of marriage.<\/p>\n

I didn\u00b4t want to get angrier. We had a big issue because I would argue with her.<\/p>\n

I would get angry but didn\u00b4t want to get angrier because I had vowed to God that I never raise a finger towards my wife.<\/p>\n

So I would stop and assume it never happened which I learnt later was suicide – slow puncture.<\/p>\n

If I had continued with that it would have erupted in one way or another.<\/p>\n

I thank God for being in Christ because when she went for counselling she actually helped me understand what it was.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Yield<\/h2>\n

The now UN\u00b4s goodwill ambassador for Kenya learnt submission and marriage took a complete turn for them.<\/p>\n

Submission doesn\u00b4t make you less. I\u00b4ve also learnt that I don\u00b4t have to win every battle.<\/p>\n

When things become worse I just pray and it works my way.<\/p>\n

My faith has grown. I see things work more with prayer and believe in God.<\/p>\n
