Performance in Public Places (PPP)royalties were distributed equally to all our members. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/pQxYBL18Zl\">pic.twitter.com\/pQxYBL18Zl<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) (@TheMCSK) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TheMCSK\/status\/1161622028253876225?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 14, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Soon after, fellow artists followed suite to back up the expose that has since then gone viral.<\/p>\n<h2>Defense<\/h2>\n<p>Compelling the music body to respond to the allegations but in all earnest tried to defend themselves.<\/p>\n<p>According to MCSK, they distributed royalties to all their 13,967 members but are yet to receive a dime from any broadcasters who exploit music.<\/p>\n<p>MCSK&#8217;s tweets read:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ghafla.co.ke\/ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2019\/08\/unnamed-12.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-109413 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghafla.co.ke\/ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2019\/08\/unnamed-12-233x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"631\" height=\"813\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ghafla.co.ke\/ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2019\/08\/unnamed-12-233x300.jpg 233w, https:\/\/www.ghafla.co.ke\/ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2019\/08\/unnamed-12.jpg 583w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 631px) 100vw, 631px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ghafla.co.ke\/ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2019\/08\/unnamed-13.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-109414 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghafla.co.ke\/ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2019\/08\/unnamed-13-234x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"618\" height=\"793\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ghafla.co.ke\/ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2019\/08\/unnamed-13-234x300.jpg 234w, https:\/\/www.ghafla.co.ke\/ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2019\/08\/unnamed-13.jpg 585w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 618px) 100vw, 618px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Surprisingly, the same board earlier indicated that this is a &#8216;general distribution&#8217; for artists nationally.<\/p>\n<h2>KECOBO<\/h2>\n<p>The umbrella body, Kenya Copyright Board (KECOBO), issued a statement confirming the disbursement of Ksh 80 Million for the 2nd quarter of the year.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">This is to confirm that the three music Collective Management Organisations (CMOs) licensed by <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KenyaCopyright?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@KenyaCopyright<\/a> which are <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/kampkenya?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@kampkenya<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/priskkenya?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@priskkenya<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TheMCSK?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@TheMCSK<\/a> have distributed Sh80 million royalties from collection of the second quarter of the year (April to June 2019). <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/LFFNKc22gv\">pic.twitter.com\/LFFNKc22gv<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Kenya Copyright Board (@KenyaCopyright) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KenyaCopyright\/status\/1161577187394428928?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 14, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>And according to the body, this amounts to 68% of total revenue amassed within the period.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore the Ksh 2,530 that Kenyan artists have received is just but the first slice of royalty received this year.
