Tanzanian singer Lawrence Marima Madole, better known as Marlaw and famed for his Bembeleza<\/em> hit, is back with a new jam and it has elicited mixed reactions.<\/p>\n

The song titled Taa<\/em>, which is a Swahili word that means ‘light or a lamp’, talks about being able to see what is coming so that you can act accordingly. (At least that’s how I understood it, I am wrong pardon me, my Swahili is trash).<\/p>\n

I have mixed feeling about this song. Part of me feels that it’s below par because we’ve seen better songs from Marlaw in the past.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, I strongly feel that this is the kind of songs that grow in you with time, maybe a few days, maybe a few months. The kind that you have to listen to over and over before they hit home.<\/p>\n

What is clear that Taa is quite different from songs that made him a household name like\u00a0Bembeleza, Sorry Sana, Pii Pii, Rita<\/em> etc.<\/p>\n

In as much as this song bears a powerful message, it made me wonder whether Marlaw, who has been away from the music industry for the last decade, can compete with the likes of Diamond Platnumz or Ali Kiba.<\/p>\n

There’s nothing to write home about the video nor the beat. They are too simple. Truth is, you might fall asleep while listening to this song.<\/p>\n
