Azimio Coalition leader Raila Odinga has announced that the coalition will hold countrywide protests on Wednesday, July 19, regardless of whether the government issues a permit.<\/p>\n

Odinga said that the protests are being held to demand that the government address the high cost of living and other issues affecting Kenyans. He urged Kenyans to come out in large numbers to participate in the demonstrations.<\/p>\n

DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa echoed Odinga’s sentiments, saying that the coalition would not be cowed by the government. He urged Kenyans to continue signing the petition against President William Ruto’s administration on both digital and manual collection platforms.<\/p>\n

The Coalition has also announced that they will take five days off to mourn the lives lost during Wednesday protests. At least nine people were killed during the anti-government protests according to the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights.<\/p>\n

KNCHR said four people were killed in Mlolongo while Kitengela, Emali, Sondu and Migori reported one death each.<\/p>\n

The protests are likely to be met with a heavy police presence. The government has already warned that it will not tolerate any violence.<\/p>\n

It remains to be seen how the protests will unfold. However, it is clear that the Azimio Coalition is determined to make its voice heard.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
