A police officer who posted a video on TikTok in which he made political remarks is facing disciplinary action.<\/p>\n
The officer, who has not been named, was seen in the video reading comments from his followers about the current administration of President William Ruto and the ongoing protests.<\/p>\n
\u201cZakayo must go, Ruto must go\u2026 imagine kila mtu anasema Ruto must go\u2026 mimi ni comments nasoma tu<\/em>\u00a0(everyone is saying Ruto must go\u2026 I\u2019m just reading comments),\u201d the officer says in the clip.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Some of the phrases used by the officer, who was with a colleague, are used by Azimio la Umoja \u2013 One Kenya Coalition in their anti-government protests.<\/p>\n
The policeman is also heard saying that “dialogue is the only solution and it must come immediately.”<\/p>\n
The National Police Service has condemned the officer for making misleading and reckless remarks.<\/p>\n
“As a Disciplined Service, we wish to clarify and assure the public that the behaviour portrayed in the clip is not only unacceptable but also doesn\u2019t reflect the values of NPS,” a statement from the National Police Service reads.<\/p>\n
The police termed the officer’s remarks as regrettable and that they have embarked on an internal review with a view of preferring appropriate disciplinary action.<\/p>\n
The National Police Service also said it remains focused on training its officers to the highest standards.<\/p>\n
This development comes at the height of anti-government protests by Azimio la Umoja \u2013 One Kenya Coalition.<\/p>\n
The third wave of demonstration by the opposition coalition started on Wednesday in several parts of the country and will continue on Thursday up to Friday.<\/p>\n
On Wednesday, Nairobi’s CBD remained calm but it was deserted as business people and traders failed to show up for fear of being caught up in the protests.<\/p>\n
The officer’s actions have been condemned by Kenyans on social media, who have called for him to be dismissed from the police force.<\/p>\n
It remains to be seen what disciplinary action will be taken against the officer, but his actions have highlighted the need for police officers to be more careful about what they say and do in public.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
