{"id":197327,"date":"2023-11-02T08:40:01","date_gmt":"2023-11-02T05:40:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghafla.com\/ke\/?p=197327"},"modified":"2023-11-02T08:51:17","modified_gmt":"2023-11-02T05:51:17","slug":"kenya-railways-increases-sgr-fares-by-50","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghafla.co.ke\/ke\/kenya-railways-increases-sgr-fares-by-50\/","title":{"rendered":"SGR Fares To Go Up By 50%"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-sourcepos=\"3:1-3:87\"><span class=\"animating\">Kenya Railways has announced a 50% increase in fares for all of its services,<\/span><span class=\"animating\"> effective January 1,<\/span><span class=\"animating\"> 2024.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-sourcepos=\"5:1-5:126\"><span class=\"animating\">The increase,<\/span><span class=\"animating\"> which is the first in five years,<\/span><span class=\"animating\"> is being attributed to the rising cost of fuel and other operational expenses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-sourcepos=\"7:1-7:195\"><span class=\"animating\">Under the new fare structure,<\/span><span class=\"animating\"> a passenger traveling from Nairobi to Mombasa on an economy class ticket will pay Sh1,<\/span><span class=\"animating\">500,<\/span><span class=\"animating\"> up from Sh1,<\/span><span class=\"animating\">000.<\/span><span class=\"animating\"> First-class passengers will pay Sh4,<\/span><span class=\"animating\">500,<\/span><span class=\"animating\"> up from Sh3,<\/span><span class=\"animating\">000.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-sourcepos=\"9:1-9:139\"><span class=\"animating\">Fares for other routes have also been increased.<\/span><span class=\"animating\"> For example,<\/span><span class=\"animating\"> passengers traveling from Nairobi to Suswa will now pay Sh250,<\/span><span class=\"animating\"> up from Sh200.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-sourcepos=\"11:1-11:194\"><span class=\"animating\">Kenya Railways has said that children between the ages of 3 and 11 will pay half fare,<\/span><span class=\"animating\"> while children under the age of 3 will travel for free.<\/span><span class=\"animating\"> Children over the age of 11 will pay the full fare.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-sourcepos=\"13:1-13:83\"><span class=\"animating\">Tickets purchased before January 1,<\/span><span class=\"animating\"> 2024 will not be affected by the fare increase<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kenya Railways has announced a 50% increase in fares for all of its services, effective January 1, 2024.
