The fees, which were announced by the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, covered essential services such as ID application, replacement, passport application, visa processing, and other registration and immigration services.<\/p>\n<p data-sourcepos=\"5:1-5:169\">The new fees were met with widespread discontent among citizens, with many taking to social media platforms to voice their concerns and frustrations. Some of the revised fees included:<\/p>\n<ul data-sourcepos=\"7:1-8:47\">\n<li data-sourcepos=\"7:1-7:49\">Replacement of ID cards:\u00a0Sh2,000,\u00a0up from Sh100<\/li>\n<li data-sourcepos=\"8:1-8:47\">Registration of birth and death certificates:\u00a0Sh200,\u00a0up from Sh50<\/li>\n<li data-sourcepos=\"9:1-9:56\">Ordinary passport (34 pages):\u00a0Sh7,500,\u00a0up from Sh4,500<\/li>\n<li data-sourcepos=\"10:1-10:44\">50-page passport:\u00a0Sh9,500,\u00a0up from Sh6,000<\/li>\n<li data-sourcepos=\"11:1-11:45\">66-page passport:\u00a0Sh12,500,\u00a0up from Sh7,500<\/li>\n<li data-sourcepos=\"12:1-12:43\">Lost passport:\u00a0Sh20,000,\u00a0up from Sh12,000<\/li>\n<li data-sourcepos=\"13:1-13:62\">Replacement of mutilated passport:\u00a0Sh20,000,\u00a0up from Sh10,<span class=\"animating\">000<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-sourcepos=\"15:1-15:293\"><span class=\"animating\">Kenyans argued that the increased charges were too high and would make it difficult for them to access essential services.<\/span><span class=\"animating\"> The move to suspend the new fees was welcomed by many Kenyans who felt that the increased charges were unfair and would disproportionately affect the poor and vulnerable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-sourcepos=\"17:1-17:207\"><span class=\"animating\">The government has not yet announced a new date for the implementation of the revised fees.<\/span><span class=\"animating\"> However,<\/span><span class=\"animating\"> it has said that it will continue to engage with the public to get their feedback on the proposed changes.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Kenyan government has suspended new immigration fees after a public outcry.
