Kiswahili radio icon Alex Mwakideu is celebrating 20 years in the broadcasting industry with a lavish event.<\/p>\n
The Radio 47 presenter hosted the celebration at Sarit Centre\u2019s Alloy Lounge on November 20, marking his milestone in style. Invited guests, dressed in black and gold as per the event’s theme, expressed their gratitude for the thoughtful invitations.<\/p>\n
The guest list included notable names like Wilbroda (Nyaminde), Mwende Macharia, Jalang\u2019o, MCA Tricky, King Kaka, Dr. Ofweneke, Obinna, Vijana Barubaru, and Churchill. Jalang\u2019o and Mwakideu, former co-hosts, were fan favorites during their time together on air. Mwakideu hinted at a possible reunion, saying, *\u201cWe\u2019re in talks, so something might come up soon.\u201d*<\/p>\n
Reflecting on the dynamics of radio partnerships, Mwakideu shared how initial collaborations can often be tense. *\u201cWhen you\u2019re assigned a new co-host, like Jalas or MCA Tricky, there\u2019s usually some behind-the-scenes friction. People don\u2019t know this, but there\u2019s a lot of conflict at first.\u201d*<\/p>\n
Despite the challenges, Mwakideu described his journey as fulfilling. *\u201cIt feels incredible. Two decades is no small feat. Celebrating with my people here today is truly amazing,\u201d* he said.<\/p>\n
He recounted how his entry into radio began unexpectedly. *\u201cThe news anchor got stuck in traffic, and I was told, \u2018This is your time to shine.\u2019 Luckily, I had trained for such moments. I went on air, did my best, and that\u2019s how I got the job.\u201d* Despite not having studied journalism, his natural talent and determination paved the way.<\/p>\n
Initially working as an actor and voice-over artist earning Ksh 5,000 a month, Mwakideu transitioned into radio by reading commercials. His strict work ethic played a key role in his success. *\u201cI don\u2019t tolerate nonsense. Anyone who has worked with me knows this. We would often argue after shows,\u201d* he admitted.<\/p>\n
Jalang\u2019o, he revealed, was his most challenging co-host. *\u201cHe\u2019s incredibly stubborn and confident. Working with him wasn\u2019t easy,\u201d* Mwakideu joked.<\/p>\n
