For 20 years, Bien Aime Baraza<\/strong> was the soul-stirring voice behind Sauti Sol<\/strong>, the iconic Kenyan band that left an indelible mark across East Africa and beyond. Now two years into a flourishing solo career\u2014highlighted by a sold-out 10-state U.S. tour for his album Alusa<\/em>\u2014Bien is finally sharing the key to his rebirth: his wife and manager, Chiki Kuruka<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Speaking on The Breakfast Club<\/em>, Bien opened up about the intimate and intricate dynamic of having his wife double as his manager\u2014something he says not only grounded him professionally but also salvaged their marriage.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cIt\u2019s beautiful. It\u2019s been by far the most rewarding experience of my life. I didn\u2019t think I\u2019d have it this easy in my solo career if I didn\u2019t have someone who centers me like her,\u201d Bien said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The decision to bring Chiki on as his manager came after nearly a decade together as partners. The couple had been in a romantic relationship for nine years before merging their personal and professional lives two years ago, just as Bien ventured into solo artistry.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cWhen I went solo, I was just like, \u2018Yo, I think you need to manage me.\u2019 And she was like, \u2018Okay, we\u2019re doing it for the home,\u2019 and it\u2019s been beautiful,\u201d he shared.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Their working relationship, while relatively new, has blended seamlessly with their personal bond\u2014though Bien admits the lines between work and home are often blurred.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t [separate work and personal life]. We\u2019d be in bed at midnight and she\u2019d be like, \u2018Babe, did you check the mix for the song that was sent?\u2019\u201d he revealed, laughing.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

While he acknowledges the lack of boundaries could pose a challenge in the future, for now, Bien says they\u2019re thriving: \u201cIt\u2019s beautiful right now. We\u2019re operating on great energy.\u201d<\/p>\n

The singer went further, sharing that Chiki stepping into the role of his manager didn\u2019t just benefit his career\u2014it may have saved their marriage.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cWe\u2019d had really dark times before she started managing me. And I think when she took on that role, it genuinely saved our marriage,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

On the subject of finances, Bien explained that they maintain a joint approach to money, with full transparency.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cIn my household, the money comes to the pot. It belongs to the family. She has access to all of mine, and I have access to all of hers. We work to build a future for us and our children.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The conversation also touched on marriage and cultural norms, including polygamy. When asked if he\u2019d ever consider taking a second wife, Bien was quick to shut the idea down.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, I don\u2019t. Not now. No. I don\u2019t. No.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
