While not directly naming Samidoh, Kanja emphasized that any transfer of a police officer is simply a matter of standard procedure.

“These officers are civil servants and are subject to regulations and procedures, including transfers,” Kanja stated.

This statement comes despite reports that Samidoh, who is also a police officer, was moved from the Central Region Police Headquarters to the Administration Police’s Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) in Gilgil.

Speculation about Samidoh’s transfer began on May 16, after a video of his performance at an entertainment venue went viral. In the video, concertgoers were heard chanting slogans widely interpreted as anti-government, particularly the term “Wantam,” understood as a call for President William Ruto to serve only one term. Samidoh was seen in the video seemingly encouraging the crowd.

Following this incident, reports indicated that senior government commanders viewed the singer’s actions as a violation of the Service Standing Orders (SSO), potentially leading to disciplinary action.

On Tuesday, May 27, news circulated about Samidoh’s transfer, with media outlets quoting unnamed senior police officers at Jogoo House. The transfer reportedly occurred on Monday, despite Samidoh having met with Deputy President Kithure Kindiki on Friday. This development reportedly caused dissatisfaction among his fans and the opposition, led by Rigathi Gachagua.

However, amidst the speculation regarding the transfer and its motives, IG Kanja downplayed the concerns, reiterating that any officer within the National Police Service (NPS) can be transferred at any time and that such movements typically occur to address operational needs.

“If an officer is one of us, he can be subjected to those conditions (regulations and procedures) and might be transferred,” Kanja added.

Samidoh has also found himself in the midst of political controversy, especially after his recent visit to Deputy President Kindiki’s Karen residence. Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua further complicated the singer’s situation on Sunday by demanding an apology from all musicians who visited Kindiki, threatening a boycott of their music if they refused.

Samidoh subtly addressed his critics in a recent social media post, stating, “In a war of egos, the loser wins.”

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has addressed the recent transfer of police officers, specifically aiming to clarify the situation surrounding popular Mugithi singer Samuel Muchoki Ndirangu, famously known as Samidoh.
