While recovering in hospital after a serious motorbike accident, entrepreneur Khalif Kairo has broken his silence, offering an emotional and unfiltered take on Kenya\u2019s political climate and the recent death of blogger Albert Ojwang.<\/p>\n
Speaking to Obinna TV Network during a hospital visit, Kairo said he was heartbroken and outraged by Ojwang\u2019s death, which allegedly occurred in police custody. He condemned the brutality of those in power, describing them as \u201cextremely evil\u201d and willing to go to any length\u2014killing, maiming, even destroying livelihoods\u2014just to silence critics.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis guy had a child, was his family\u2019s only son,\u201d Kairo lamented. \u201cMy heart breaks. I imagine what his father must feel. I put myself in his shoes, or in my mother\u2019s shoes. It\u2019s painful.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kairo, who himself spent a month in prison, spoke from personal experience about the vulnerability of confronting the system. \u201cNo place is safe,\u201d he said. \u201cYou can be kidnapped, killed, or framed. And for what? A social media post? That\u2019s just the lowest we can go as a country.\u201d<\/p>\n
He called Ojwang\u2019s death especially tragic, noting that Kenya is witnessing increasing state repression. \u201cI\u2019ve learned the hard way. That\u2019s why nowadays I just observe. But what happened to that young man is deeply tragic,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Kairo also spoke passionately about the future, predicting that the Gen Z generation\u2014often dismissed for their online activism\u2014will eventually lead the country.<\/p>\n
\u201cToday we\u2019re in our 20s, but in 10 to 20 years, we\u2019ll be in our 40s. These same people making noise online? They\u2019ll be the ones in government,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd we might not be so kind to the people who are in power now.\u201d<\/p>\n
He predicted that current leaders could one day face serious consequences:
\u201cI foresee members of this regime ending up in jail for years. Unlike previous generations, we may not forgive. God has a way of balancing the scales.\u201d<\/p>\n
Despite growing calls for him to consider political leadership, Kairo distanced himself from direct involvement in politics, describing Kenya\u2019s political landscape as \u201cvery dirty and very mucky.\u201d<\/p>\n
Still, he voiced confidence that change is coming. \u201cThey may feel powerful now\u2014we don\u2019t have the army, the police, or the money. But we have time. Regimes fall. Nothing lasts forever. What\u2019s being done today won\u2019t be forgotten.\u201d<\/p>\n
