George Ruto\u2019s much-hyped matatu, Mood<\/em>, has been taken back to the garage just days after its grand debut at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), where it made waves for its futuristic design and solar-powered system.<\/p>\n

According to a report by TUKO.co.ke<\/em>, the 25-seater matatu sustained damage during the launch event, which attracted thousands of matatu culture enthusiasts. Jackson Nyang\u2019au, an official from Embassava Sacco, confirmed that Mood<\/em> was overwhelmed by overexcited fans during its unveiling.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cMood is back in the garage after sustaining damage during its grand unveiling,\u201d Nyang\u2019au said. \u201cThe matatu suffered damage due to excitement from overenthusiastic fans at the launch.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Among the reported issues were broken windows and possible mechanical complications. The matatu only operated briefly on Saturday, July 19, before being withdrawn for repairs.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cThere was a mechanic on standby. Meeting the launch deadline was hectic, so it\u2019s gone back in for a few touch-ups,\u201d Nyang\u2019au added.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Footage from the event showed dozens of fans climbing onto the matatu\u2019s roof, which houses its solar panels. Austin Oluoch, a Pipeline resident who boarded Mood<\/em> the following day, speculated that the panels may have been damaged.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cThe sound system had problems, probably due to power issues,\u201d he observed.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

An update posted on Mood\u2019s<\/em> official Instagram page confirmed the vehicle is undergoing maintenance:<\/p>\n

\u201cWe won\u2019t be long,\u201d read the caption alongside a video of the matatu in the garage.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Mood<\/em> gained massive attention even before hitting the road, largely due to its innovative solar-powered design \u2014 believed to be a first in Kenya\u2019s matatu industry. Built with flair and comfort in mind, it features 65-inch screens, a DJ deck, bucket seats, and even a mini dance floor.<\/p>\n

To accommodate these luxury upgrades, the matatu was designed as a 25-seater instead of the standard 32. It also boasts a premium sound system, featuring Deaf Bonce Apocalypse DB-4518R-4500W speakers \u2014 each costing about KSh 180,000 \u2014 with the total setup valued at over KSh 2 million.<\/p>\n

However, Mood<\/em> hasn\u2019t been without controversy. Earlier in July, a video surfaced online showing the matatu being driven recklessly around a roundabout near the Supreme Court along City Hall Way, sparking criticism.<\/p>\n
