Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has publicly demanded that Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua record a statement with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) regarding his recent allegations on terrorism. The demand, which has also been supported by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, was swiftly rejected by Gachagua, who is currently on a political tour in the United States.<\/span><\/p>\n

Gachagua, who began his US tour on July 11, 2025, sparked the controversy by challenging President William Ruto to explain why he allegedly met with three Al-Shabaab militia at night to discuss “business.”<\/span> The DCP leader also speculated that the government’s decision to remove the vetting requirement for non-Kenyans seeking identity cards was a move with ulterior motives.<\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking in Narok, CS Murkomen firmly stated that Gachagua must not be allowed to tarnish the country’s image and that of the police service with unsubstantiated claims. “Unless he has a mental problem, he must come and put all those allegations on record,” Murkomen said, adding that Gachagua must defend his claims or be held accountable.<\/span> The CS also pointed out the perceived hypocrisy in Gachagua\u2019s remarks, noting that he had previously praised the police just a year ago.<\/p>\n

In a swift rebuttal from the US, Gachagua dismissed the demand, stating he would not cooperate with Kenyan authorities.<\/span> He claimed that the “American Senate” is actively investigating the matter and that he would only assist their investigations. Gachagua argued that the Kenyan government cannot objectively investigate the President because police officers work under him, a conflict of interest that he said compromises the integrity of any local probe.<\/p>\n
