Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka<\/strong> has made shocking revelations about a near-assassination attempt<\/strong> on the late opposition leader Raila Odinga<\/strong> during the 2023 anti-government protests<\/strong>, saying police fired ten bullets<\/strong> directly at Odinga\u2019s vehicle.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Thursday, November 6, 2025<\/strong>, during a solemn visit to Raila\u2019s final resting place in Bondo, Siaya County<\/strong>, Kalonzo described the incident as \u201ca miracle escape\u201d \u2014 one that could have altered Kenya\u2019s political history.<\/p>\n

The Wiper leader, who was accompanied by top party officials and governors, also presented the Odinga family with 150 head of cattle<\/strong> as a traditional gesture of respect, unity, and shared mourning.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cWe Counted Ten Bullet Shots\u201d<\/h3>\n

Addressing mourners at Kango Ka Jaramogi<\/strong>, Kalonzo vividly recalled the tense 2023 standoff in Embakasi South<\/strong>, where he and Raila were leading nationwide demonstrations over the soaring cost of living.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cWe went, we counted ten bullet attempts on my brother,\u201d Kalonzo revealed. \u201cIt was amazing \u2014 the kind of attack that happened that day. The orders seemed very clear: to eliminate Raila Odinga.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

According to him, only the presence of an armoured vehicle<\/strong> saved Raila\u2019s life.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cIf it were not that he was having an armoured vehicle, we would have buried him in 2023,\u201d he said solemnly.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

After the attack, the two leaders reportedly fled to the home of Raphael Tuju in Karen<\/strong>, narrowly escaping what Kalonzo described as a \u201ctargeted political assault.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n

Honouring the \u2018Father of Maandamano\u2019<\/h3>\n

The Thursday visit, which began in Kisumu<\/strong>, saw Kalonzo\u2019s delegation stop at the Opoda home<\/strong> before proceeding to Raila\u2019s grave.<\/p>\n

Kalonzo, dressed in jungle green traditional attire<\/strong> and carrying a spear and shield<\/strong>, was welcomed by Mama Ida Odinga<\/strong>. As part of the Luo mourning tradition, he led the crowd in chanting \u201cJowi! Jowi!\u201d<\/strong> \u2014 a cry reserved for fallen heroes.<\/p>\n

The Wiper leader eulogized Raila as \u201cthe father of maandamano\u201d<\/strong>, a leader who fought tirelessly for democracy and devolution.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cRaila will be more powerful in death than when he was alive because he inspired young Kenyans,\u201d Kalonzo said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\n

Leaders, Elders, and Loyalists Pay Tribute<\/h3>\n

Among those who joined the Wiper leader were Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti<\/strong>, Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr<\/strong>, several MPs, elders from Ukambani, and religious leaders.<\/p>\n

The group laid wreaths and offered prayers at the gravesite, pledging to uphold Raila\u2019s legacy and continue his fight against bad governance.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe values Raila lived for \u2014 justice, democracy, and equality \u2014 will never die,\u201d Kalonzo declared, promising that the opposition would keep resisting oppression in his honour.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
