Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has released a video justifying his decision to publicly expose his daughter’s alleged domestic abuse case, following criticism from Pastor James Ng’ang’a regarding the public handling of the sensitive family matter.<\/p>\n

On November 24, 2025, Sonko defended his actions, stating that he shared the confrontation with his son-in-law to raise urgent awareness about gender-based violence (GBV) and encourage other victims across the country to speak out instead of suffering in silence.<\/p>\n

Pastor Ng\u2019ang\u2019a\u2019s Call for Privacy<\/h2>\n

The defense comes after Pastor Ng\u2019ang\u2019a used his Sunday sermon on November 23, 2025, to condemn the former Governor\u2019s public approach. Ng’ang’a argued that the confrontation should have been resolved privately, expressing concern over the potential damage to the children and the institution of marriage.<\/p>\n

The controversial pastor specifically warned against publicizing sensitive financial details, such as Sonko financially supporting his daughter\u2019s family and paying for his grandchildren\u2019s education.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou cannot publicly reveal such things or physically confront the man in front of your daughter when she marries someone less wealthy,” Ng\u2019ang\u2019a stated. “Even if you are schooling her kids, you cannot put those things in public.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Ng’ang’a suggested that the husband\u2019s family should have addressed the issue privately with Sonko\u2019s daughter.<\/p>\n

Sonko: GBV Must Not Be Hidden<\/h2>\n

In his rebuttal, Sonko maintained that his primary motivation was the protection of his daughter, revealing that he had previously remained silent during earlier abuse incidents. He argued that the secrecy surrounding domestic violence is what allows it to continue.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t say these things to provoke people but I put them out there so that it can help people,\u201d Sonko responded, firmly stating that gender-based violence should not be hidden.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
