{"id":231407,"date":"2025-12-28T20:01:09","date_gmt":"2025-12-28T17:01:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghafla.co.ke\/ke\/?p=231407"},"modified":"2025-12-28T20:01:09","modified_gmt":"2025-12-28T17:01:09","slug":"ps-omollos-widow-empowerment-program-means-stability-for-widows-in-kenya","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghafla.co.ke\/ke\/ps-omollos-widow-empowerment-program-means-stability-for-widows-in-kenya\/","title":{"rendered":"PS Omollo\u2019s Widow Empowerment Program Means Stability for Widows in Kenya"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PS Raymond Omollo hosted hundreds of widows at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology in Bondo, Siaya County as part of the highly acclaimed Widow Empowerment Program.<\/p>\n<p>It was a moment of solidarity with widows, who were once isolated and overlooked &#8211; and offer support, dignity and a pathway to economic independence.<\/p>\n<p>The Interior PS Dr. Raymond Omollo, is the driving force behind the Widows Empowerment Programme which has has now touched more than 22,620 widows and 377 groups across Kenya.<\/p>\n<p>Families in Siaya, Homa Bay, Kisumu, Migori and beyond have been part of this journey.<\/p>\n<p>Some have received new homes, transforming conditions that once offered little protection from weather or insecurity.<\/p>\n<p>Others have received livelihood support, materials for small businesses, water tanks, furniture, wheelchairs, seedlings, and tools to build a future that is no longer held down by loss.<\/p>\n<p>The Program isn\u2019t limited to big events or one county.<\/p>\n<p>From Homa Bay\u2019s Tang Chon Ber widows to the Wagwe South Widows in Karachuonyo, the initiative has worked with groups at the ward and constituency levels.<\/p>\n<p>In Homa Bay, widows have received skills training, financial support, and mentorship &#8211; helping them break cycles of poverty and build stability for their families.<\/p>\n<p>In Kisumu East and West, nearly a hundred widow groups have benefitted through support for small businesses, water access solutions, and communal projects that strengthen local economies.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_231408\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-231408\" style=\"width: 1280px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-231408\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghafla.co.ke\/ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2025\/12\/IMG-20251228-WA0006.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"784\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ghafla.co.ke\/ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2025\/12\/IMG-20251228-WA0006.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/www.ghafla.co.ke\/ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2025\/12\/IMG-20251228-WA0006-300x184.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ghafla.co.ke\/ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2025\/12\/IMG-20251228-WA0006-1024x627.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.ghafla.co.ke\/ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2025\/12\/IMG-20251228-WA0006-768x470.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-231408\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Widows during the event in Karachuonyo Constituency of Homabay County (Image: Files)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>What sets this programme apart is the breadth of its support:<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Housing<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>More than 26 widows received fully built homes, offering safe shelter and security.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Livelihood support<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Groups were equipped with chairs, tents, water tanks, and seedlings &#8211; tools that can be used to generate income and improve food security.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Education and mobility<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Some children from widows\u2019 families have received scholarships, while mobility aids such as wheelchairs have been provided to those in need.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Psychosocial and legal support<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Beyond material help, the programme offers counsel and guidance to help widows protect their rights and build confidence.<\/p>\n<p>In a country where widows often face stigma, economic hardship, and social exclusion, the program stands out as a model of practical support &#8211; blending shelter, livelihood, education, and community engagement.<\/p>\n<p>Under PS Raymond Omollo\u2019s leadership and with local coordinators working at the grassroots, the programme continues to expand its reach.<\/p>\n<p>As more groups are supported and more lives transformed, the narrative is shifting: <em>widowhood is no longer seen as an endpoint but a new beginning full of possibility.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PS Raymond Omollo hosted hundreds of widows at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology in Bondo, Siaya County as part of the highly acclaimed Widow Empowerment Program.
