The protests, triggered by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority\u2019s (EPRA) May 14 price hike, have left several people dead, dozens injured, and businesses looted.<\/p>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"2\">Geopolitical Tensions Blamed for Price Spikes<\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"3\">Defending the administration against claims of local mismanagement, Kindiki attributed the energy crisis to escalating geopolitical warfare between Iran, Israel, and the United States. He noted that the conflict has severely disrupted global supply chains.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-path-to-node=\"4\">\n<p data-path-to-node=\"4,0\">&#8220;The government has taken measures to mitigate against the unprecedented spike in global fuel prices occasioned by the US\/Israel-Iran war,&#8221; Kindiki explained. &#8220;With the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz, ships are taking longer routes and insurance costs have soared to record highs.
