Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has drawn a battle line with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), vowing to legally challenge his fresh ouster as the party\u2019s Secretary General. Sifuna has slammed the National Executive Committee\u2019s (NEC) decision as unprocedural, unfair, and a direct violation of the party\u2019s constitution.<\/p>\n
In a sharp statement released on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, Sifuna\u2019s Linda Mwananchi<\/i> faction noted that the NEC’s move mirrored a botched coup from earlier this year.<\/p>\n “Last evening, we were made aware of the decision by the ODM Party NEC purporting, for the second time, to remove the SG Edwin Sifuna from office. On the face of it, the decision bears similarities with the first one in February; unprocedural, unfair and contrary to the Party’s Constitution,” the faction stated.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n “After consultation with our legal teams earlier this morning, it has been decided to, once again, test the propriety of the purported ouster in the courts because we are convinced it should suffer the same fate as the first one in February.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n The drama peaked on Monday evening when ODM officially axed Sifuna after the NEC adopted the heavy recommendations of the Internal Dispute Resolution Mechanism (IDRM) committee. According to the party, the committee was properly constituted under Article 51(3)(f) of the ODM constitution to hear structural complaints leveled against the vocal Senator.<\/p>\n \u201cAfter going through the report and findings of the IDRM under Article 74(2) of the Party constitution, the NEC unanimously resolved to adopt the Committee\u2019s recommendations and endorsed the removal from office of Senator Edwin Sifuna,\u201d announced Acting SG Catherine Omanyo. \u201cEffectively, Sifuna ceases to be the SG of the ODM party.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n ODM defended the swift move by citing recent rulings from the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT), which gave the green light for the disciplinary process to resume after previous blockades were lifted. Sifuna had reportedly boycotted the IDRM committee sittings after his legal counsel, Senior Counsel Isaac Okero, raised red flags over structural bias.
