Justice Wilfrida Okwany\u00a0temporarily lifted the ban imposed by the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) on Rafiki in a ruling made on September 21st.<\/p>\n
Okany lifted the ban\u00a0for seven days to allow Rafiki to be considered for an award at the Oscars. It was to be submitted to the 2019 Oscars Award as Kenya\u2019s entry to the Best Foreign Language film category.<\/p>\n
For a film to be considered for Oscars first it has to be screened in cinemas.\u00a0The\u00a0lesbian-themed film was\u00a0allowed to be screened to willing adults in cinemas across the country following the ruling.<\/p>\n
Comedian\u00a0Trevor Noah poked fun at Kenyans for warming up to Rafiki all because of the Oscar awards. (Rafiki missed out on Oscars nomination soon after the court temporarily lifted the ban).<\/p>\n
